A Snack
AJ has never been the best eater. I mean, he eats, but he has to be told to and often times he fights it. He has never asked me to eat... Until now. Over the past week or so, he's been asking me for snacks! He wakes up in the morning and first thing he says is, "Good morning Mom, can I have a snack?" or after lunch or dinner, "Can I have a snack?" The first day I just thought he wanted junk as a snack, but then I got him some granola bars and these other soft healthy "bear paws" and he eats them. I'm just amazed that he's so hungry! It's a good thing! He must be growing :)

Random Thoughts...
I've got a number of random AJ funnies, thoughts and stories so I figured I'd put them all in one post:
* Yesterday, we were walking through the grocery store and AJ started singing "I'm sixty and I know it". It was hilarious because that's actually a song- however, the words are "I'm sexy and I know it", but at the same time, frightening to know he's heard the song.
* A couple days ago I switched purses and the next morning AJ noticed it. He told me, "Mom! I LOVE your new purse!" I love that he's observant like that, and I love that he gives compliments.
* I think AJ is going to make a great husband one day (A LONG time from now). He's complimentary, he's caring, he has great manners, he's sensitive, but manly, and he likes the idea of "tecting" me.
* About a week ago, we were driving around and he was playing on my phone and all the sudden he says to me, "Anyway, so... Mom...how was your day?"
* He told me the other day that when he's 5, he's going to kindergarten. This is true, of course, but I was surprised to hear he even knew that.
* Each day he comes home with a list of kids who are or aren't his friends. It's ever changing. And then he tells me which kid said "poopy butt". We're entering the tattle tale stage, I think.
* He wants to have a Star Wars birthday party. Daddy will dress up as Darth Vader, and grandma and I will both be Princess Leah :)
* We started using mouthwash and boy does it make brushing teeth so much easier! He loves the idea of swishing around bubble gum flavors mouthwash and then spitting it out. :)I love the idea that his teeth are clean.

Lollipop Park!
Today, AJ went to his first school birthday party and it was SUCH a great experience for both of us. I didn't get the invitation until late last week, but I asked AJ if he wanted go and he said yes. It was for this little girl named Adyson- I'd never seen her or heard of her before. I asked AJ how old she was and he didn't know. We went in pretty blind today :)
The party was at this place called Lollipop Park. Surprisingly, I've never heard of it. It's a really neat place- it's in this HUGE building and part of it's used for birthday parties (where we were) and there's also an ice skating rink, restaurant and arcade. I'd looked it up online and showed AJ pictures, but their website isn't that great so I wasn't sure what to expect.
All the kids at the party got wrist bands that allowed them to do about 6 different rides- as many times as they wanted. There was a carousel, a huge swing, a train, tea cups, a Ferris wheel and this thing called a "whip it". It's a ride that basically gives the kids whip lash a bunch of times and believe me, it was a hit. AJ rode on it about 6 times.
I had been told months ago that in preschool, most times, all of the kids are invited to birthday parties so that no one feels left out. So, I assumed many Castle Academy kids and parents would be there. Turns out about 20 kids and families were there. It was SO wonderful to finally put a few faces with names and to meet some of AJ's friends parents. Typically I only see a parent or two at drop off or pick up and we're all excited to see our own kids and get to work or get home. Other than saying hi, we don't really chat. Well, today was totally different. Once we got there, AJ met up with his buddy Alec, who I have heard of, but don't recall meeting. Alec is TALL and he's almost a year older than AJ. They are total buddies. They spent 90% of the party together going on different rides while I chatted with Alec's mom. A few teachers were there too- one I knew pretty well and one I only met a few times. It was so fun getting to know them a bit more.
The best part of the day for me was watching AJ with his buddies. Of course, I see him with other friends- Daxie and Skylar, Riley and Maddy, Sam and Joe, but this was different. These were his school buddies. He acted different- much more mature. No whining, no complaining, no fighting. He was confident and loved giggling and hanging out with his friends. I imagined that's how he was most days at school. I'm always proud of my boy, but today I felt myself beaming just watching him :)

Great Weekend With AJ!
AJ and I got to spend the entire weekend together and while we didn't have much planned, we did a few really fun things together. I'm always proud of him, but this weekend I he really proved himself to be a very brave boy!
Last week, Colorado got an INSANE amount of snow. It snowed for 36 hours non-stop and we got about 18 inches (depending on what channel you watched or what city you live in). When it finally stopped snowing, it was time for sledding! On Saturday morning AJ and I went over to Grandma and Papa's because they have some great hills in their neighborhood. We all got on our snow gear and grabbed the sled and camera and headed out. What a difference a year makes!
Last year, we had a wonderful time sledding and because AJ was 2 1/2 he was kinda young to do much on his own. This year, I assumed I'd still be in the sled with him, but on our first trip down the hill, we barely moved. We were too heavy. So, I got out and AJ did it all by himself. What a BRAVE guy! He absolutely had a BLAST! He giggled down the hill each time and when he got to the bottom between giggles he kept saying, "THAT WAS AWESOME!" Thankfully, the sun was out so it really wasn't too cold (probably in the 20's) so he never froze. He loved watching me go down the hill too. Here's a video and some pics:
Another big thing happened on Saturday night. I took AJ to the Rec Center pool- we haven't been in months! They have this great indoor kid pool with a water slide and AJ has never gone alone. He's gone on my lap a few times but FINALLY he did it alone! I had to coax him and promise him candy, but it worked! When he finally decided he was going to do it, I loved watching him just do it with purpose. You could see his whole body language change and he just said, "I'm doing it" and took off. Now, this isn't a huge water slide or anything, but it's dark inside and obviously you come down and land in the water (which he can stand in). I hate water slides, mainly because of the dark, so I totally get why he never wanted to do it. I was so proud that he did tho.

Visit from Uncle Matt!
AJ, Grandma, Papa and Matt got to spend the day together on Friday and that night I joined them and we all went out to dinner.
Then on Saturday, Matt and I went up to the mountains for a great day of skiing. The traffic was horrible, but the snow was so good, it made it all worth it. We haven't had much snow lately and this past weekend we finally got some. It's funny, I haven't skied too much in the past 10 years, but when I do ski, it's typically with Matt. He's a much better skier, but I can keep up :)

On Sunday, before Matt had to leave, AJ and I went to Grandmas for breakfast and we all got to spend some time together. AJ and Matt had a bunch of "foot fights" on the couch and just laughed and played. They just love each other! Matt is such a great uncle and AJ really had such a fun time :)
